About Workshop
Workshop launched Fall 2021 as a 1200 square foot meeting and event space located at 186 Oxmoor Road, conveniently positioned near Patriot Park as well as the growing number of restaurants and coffee shops in West Homewood. The vision for Workshop is that it would be a space where people are inspired to learn and invest in themselves, all while bringing together a community that could transform Birmingham.
Workshop is a more affordable option than most event spaces, yet more efficient and thoughtful at the same time. The well-crafted space possesses eight foot tables on casters and chairs, a casual entry way and lounge area and a kitchenette. Workshop offers a space to store essentials needed for any event you’re planning, from fresh flowers that need to be chilled to books for display.
The vision for Workshop is to be a space where people are inspired to learn and invest in themselves, all while bringing together a community that could transform Birmingham.
The Workshop Vision
Connection, collaboration, and creativity is at the core of everything that is done at Workshop. Here you are encouraged to learn from local authors, artists, chefs, designers, florists, teachers, stylists, and various business people who share their own expertise and passions in a way that encourages personal and professional growth. Workshop is a community that fosters a more intentional and thoughtful way of living while exposing people to new and unfamiliar topics. This network of talented, creative, and smart people will serve the community in endless ways.
the face behind the brand
Katherine Thrower
Katherine Thrower is the owner and creator of Workshop Local LLC. Katherine has been a part of building many business endeavors while spending more than twenty years in the events and programs industry.
Katherine finds herself drawn most to the importance of gathering people to connect, learn, and grow.
She has planned events, large and small, but realizes it’s not everyone’s wheelhouse to customize events and give attention to the details that make meetings special. Therefore, she desires to provide opportunities for people to gather and easily get to the essence of their time together.
Katherine’s goal is to create a space that is both interesting and inspiring, yet simple and approachable where the main objective is always the focus.
A connector of people’s hopes and ideas, Katherine recognizes that she gains energy from the environments around her. Katherine can typically be found straddling the fence between business and creativity, realism and bohemian leaning, introvert and extrovert. She finds joy in helping others to connect to their passions and find joy. Bliss for Katherine is a nice dinner with friends, coffee in a comfortable spot, or viewing an Australian, British, or French drama alone on Netflix.
